It is the original unit of Long Island University, one of the largest and most comprehensive private universities in the country. Freshmen Students


A college education is the best investment you can make in your future. Choosing the college or university that is right for you is an important part of your journey. Each year, millions of young people relocate from all over the world for the culture and opportunity of New York City. Over the past decade, Brooklyn in particular has become a hotbed of creativity and entrepreneurship.

With nearly 100 undergraduate degree programs, you will find a course of study that fits your interests, talents, and goals and learn from faculty and mentors that are experts in fields ranging from athletic training to urban studies, pharmacy, art therapy, journalism, and so much more.

The LIU difference goes far beyond the classroom. From a vibrant campus life including dozens of clubs and organizations and active Greek life, championship NCAA Division I Sharks athletics teams, one-of-a-kind student-run businesses, and your personal LIU Promise Coach that will be there to assist you from enrollment to graduation and every step of the way. 


Admitted Student

Finalizing your enrollment for the can be done in ten easy steps! For reference, the information listed below can also be found in your Admitted Student Packet. 

1. Activate your account.

2. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
All newly accepted students who wish to be considered for financial aid (Federal, State, LIU Institutional) must file a FAFSA. New York State Residents may also file the NYS TAP Grant Application.

3. Secure your seat by making a tuition deposit.
Pay online at My LIU and click “Make an E-Payment” on main landing page. You may also submit check or money order by mail with completed Intent to Enroll Form

4. On-Campus Housing Application and Room Selection
Planning to live on campus? All students who wish to live on campus must complete a Housing Application. Follow the instructions found in your MyLIU Student Center portal under the icon "University Housing." To be eligible to select a room, the following requirements must be met:

  • On-Campus Housing Application completed
  • Emergency contact information updated (updates can be made "Student Center" in MyLIU account)
  • $300 housing deposit submitted (via e-deposit at MYLIU or by visiting Enrollment Services on the third floor of the Metcalfe Building)
  • Be in good financial standings in compliance with the University Immunization Policy

5. Complete required health forms.
Please print and complete the required Immunization Forms. You may send the completed forms to LIU Promise, 1 University Plaza, Pratt 321, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

6. Submit final, official high school and college transcripts.
All incoming students must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent to register for classes and receive financial assistance. Students should arrange to have these documents sent to Office of Admissions as soon as possible, but no later than August 1.

7. Accept Scholarship and Financial Aid in your MyLIU Portal.
You may review your financial aid package anytime in My LIU > Student Center > Finances > Accept Awards.

8. Attend New Student Orientation.
Registration for New Student Orientation will become available after May 1.

9. Register for classes.
Most students will register for classes during Orientation, however you are welcome to RSVP for an upcoming Advisement & Registration Day. The list of dates will become available after May 1.

10. Submit Tuition Payment.
All students will be notified of their bill after May 1.
